Mastering Tango – The Ochos and Voleos Workshop

Book now to avoid disappointment!

This workshop continues the series of ‘Mastering tango’ workshops. Each workshop can be taken independently.

Ochos and Voleos (Boleos) are some of the most classic movements within Argentine tango. They rely on the followers pivot, and need both a command of balance from the follower, as well as a precise lead from the leader to make them look stylish and elegant.

In this one and a half hour workshop we will look at capturing a followers pivot to lead into front or back ochos along the line of dance, directly from a walk. We will look at expanding the options in leading and following voleos, both back and front, and finally castiga (a rapid combination of both back and front Voleos).

It is for improvers to intermediate level, and is ideal for couples wishing to expand their technique and musicality for this beautiful, sophisticated and elegant dance.

It takes two to tango, so this workshop will be role balanced (equal leaders and followers) as far as possible. If you don’t have a partner, please visit my Facebook Page, find this event and post a comment to see if anyone is looking for a partner too.

The workshop will cover as much of the following as time allows

  • Review of Ocho Adelante (front), Ocho Atras (back)
  • Capturing Followers pivot to perform Ochos along the Line Of Dance (LOD)
  • Review of Back Voleo
  • Front Voleo
  • Changing direction of Followers pivot to induce ‘whipping’ action of the free leg (Castiga)

By the end of the workshop my aim is to have you dancing an Argentine Tango, using smooth entry and exits from Ochos, and to lead and follow Voleos and Castiga, to a traditional tango tune.

Places are limited (10 people only) so you need to book and pay for your place below to guarantee entry. Please don’t attend without booking (we might be too full to let you in), and please don’t book without attending (you might be blocking a place that someone else could use instead)!

If you miss out on this workshop, don’t worry, we are planning more in the area later in the year, subject to demand.

What to bring: your usual dance shoes, clothing to allow free movement, and any refreshments you may wish to consume.
