Please note: This workshop will run providing… 1. our venue is open for business, 2. there is no ban on assemblies of small groups of people, 3. I have not obviously contracted Covid-19 by this date (but please read the post on the home page), and 4. at least 2 couples wish to attend. I will limit attendance to 4 couple maximum, and our tango room has plenty of ventilation.
A one and a half hour workshop introducing Argentine Tango Vals. It is for Argentine Tango dancers who do not yet feel confident with dancing the Vals (waltz) style. Ideal for couples wishing to learn this beautiful, sophisticated and elegant tango version of the waltz, whether you want to try Argentine Tango Vals for the first time, or you wish to boost to your basic musicality and technique.
Ideally you will have had a minimum of 20 weeks of Tango experience, and will have already begun to attend milongas.
It takes two to vals, so this course will be role balanced (equal leaders and followers) as far as possible. I advise people to book as couples so that there is less need to circulate.
The workshop will cover as much of the following as time allows
Vals Walking
- Basic Vals timing for Walking
- Using Cadence in the Walk to produce rise and fall
Taking Tango Salon figures and reworking them to vals timing using pauses, double timing, and ‘divide by three’ rules.
- The Cross – Vals timing (Cruzada)
- The Box step (Baldosa) with change of weight variation.
- Walking Back Ochos (Caminata Ocho Atras)
The Vals as a circular dance
- Multiple Grapevines (Giro Uva)
- Using faster Giros in a Vals.
- Cross system / parallel system turn into Cross
The Vals danced on the spot
- The Box step (Baldosa) with change of weight variation and rise and fall variation.
- The Bow (El Arco)
Two ‘Romantic’ Grapevine-like figures
- Cross system to anti-clockwise turn
- Parallel system to clockwise turn
Musicality
By the end of the workshop my aim is to have you dancing a simple Argentine Tango Vals, using some classic figures, to a traditional vals tune.
Places are limited (4 couples only) so you need to book and pay for your place below to guarantee entry. Please don’t attend without booking (we might be too full to let you in), and please don’t book without attending (you might be blocking a place that someone else could use instead)!
If you miss out on this workshop, don’t worry, we are planning more in the area later in the year, subject to demand.
What to bring: your usual dance shoes, clothing to allow free movement, and any refreshments you may wish to consume.
